I Am Now, And Have Always Been, The World's Luckiest Guy!

First, I'm the luckiest lawyer on the planet. Usually, that distinction would go to a lawyer in a 500-man firm who practices international widget/intellectual protection law.

This year, however, as we move on tracks toward one million mortgage foreclosures in the United States, being a bankruptcy lawyer in Phoenix, Arizona has its points; I get to work as hard as I want!

But wait! How lucky is this!

I have multiple, lotsa, a ton of, potential clients who have variations of the name Kobayashi (as in "Kobayashi Maru")! They email me frequently, explaining that they have some simple creditor problem, so if I write a demand letter I'll make a ton of money with very little work!

Now, I kid around a lot. I am not kidding about the following: be careful with excessively easy collection representations involving a demand letter followed by a remarkably fast payment by the "debtor".

The scam is simple, and it is entirely directed at one target: the dough in your trust account. You'll get a check, and you'll deposit it. And you'll ship the appropriate percentage to the "client".

And then you'll discover that the check that came to you was bogus, or that payment was stopped on it, and your trust account balance is now zero.

Based on the number of those goofy solicitations I get (one or two a day), somebody is still suckering on those deals. Don't let it be you!

On the other hand, I know, for certain, that I am the luckiest guy in the world because in the last week, I won both the Microsoft and the Tobacco Sweepstates, and I didn't even enter either one!

Seriously, be careful out there, lawyers! Watch your operating and your trust account as though somebody is trying to grab them.

Because somebody is trying to grab your trust and operating account.
